Elevated homes, or homes on stilts, may seem to be an extreme choice for homeowners who want to build in coastal locations. In time these buildling methods will be likely be viewed as smart choices for coastal living. Elevation is not a guarantee of a storm resistance. Homes which are in the direct path of a major storm may still be heavily damaged or destroyed but these building methods will minimize the risk of damage from rising flood waters.
